Spotlight - Jewish Image
Spring 2003
Shloime Dachs has become a household name, appearing at concerts, dinners, weddings,
and simchas around the world. His warm personality, gentle smile and sweet voice have touched the lives of thousands, as he continues to bring joy and smiles wherever he performs.
From his 1996 debut album, "One Day At A Time," to his popular 1998 release, "Acheinu," to his 2000 masterpiece, "K'ish Echod," Shloime has done it again! With each effort he blazes new trails, honing his talents as he uses new vocal techniques, awe-some musical and choir arrangements and eleven original tunes that keep playing in the listener's mind for hours after the CD has ended. His latest CD —" Avinu," his fourth solo effort, continues in that tradition.
We live in tumultuous times. Lives of Jews the world over are imperiled in a manner unthought of for nearly half a century. September 11, 2001, changed the world in seconds. Now more than ever, where can we turn? Who will protect the small remnant of Klal Yisroel? Of course, only Avinu Shebashamayim, our Heavenly Father. This theme of hope and inspiration permeates this marvelous CD. Shloime's vocals will certainly move you and inspire the Neshoma within us all. Perhaps, one might expect that today's current events warrants melancholy music with somber tunes. Yet, in reality, our knowledge that Hashem is there for us whenever we need him, should bring joy to our hearts. It is this underlying idea which formed the basis for many musical masterpieces of earlier generations. A somber recognition of our circumstance, which eventually brings forth joy and hope. In a contemporary mode, Shloime, together with the compositions and arrangements of the talented Yitzy Bald ,and songs from Gideon Levine, Yishai Lapidot, Yitzy Waldner and others, have recreated this classic philosophy of Jewish song.
The opening song, "Ain Lanu", is an incredible Hora, full of energy & excitement. Then comes the second track "Ani Maamin". The initial slow beat, reflects the cautious but hopeful prayer of Moshiach, which we long for daily. However, before you know it, the
song metamorphisizes into a quick paced upbeat classic. The English song, "Forever," is guaranteed to touch your heart as we ask Hashem to please hear our cries & feel our pain, as we wait to return to our homeland. The melodic "lm Eshkachaich," underscores the central place that Yerushalayim holds in our hearts and dreams, especially with
today's almost daily barrage of worrisome news from Eretz Yisroel. Other tracks, include some real "show stoppers" like "Bayom Hahu" composed by Yishai Lapidot, whose exuberance and energy virtually jump off the CD at you. Gideon Levine has composed "Ma Rabu," a song which is sure to find its way to many Shabbos tables and Kumsitzen, along the lines of the now famous "Shiru Lamelech". Then of course comes the `Chupah Song' of the album, "Asher Bara," which is certain to become a major hit at weddings around the world very soon.
This CD also contains a free special interactive CD-ROM with a moving video presentation of Yerushalayim, the focal point of our hopes and our Tefillos, to view on your computer, giving testimony to Shloime's originality and creativity.
The talented dynamic duo of Shloime Dachs & Yitzy Bald have created an album second to none and is assuredly Shloime's best. With a fantastic production such as this, one must wonder what else can Shloime come up with for his next CD? I don't know, but I can't wait to find out, and I'm certain you can't wait either. But for now, sit back, and enjoy, "Avinu!"
